Dell OptiPlex power cutting off randomly pleeeeease help ..?
My Dell Apoplexy 260 (i think) Sort of died last year around feb time. Since then its been gathering dust. Today i decided to plug it in for old times sake to see if it had completely given up the ghost when to my surprise and utter joy (because i love this computer) it started up.
Now, my problem is that it was fine for around 40 minutes when it cut out again i opened up the case to take a look and pressed the power button to which the PSU fan gave a feeble spin then gave up.
I disconnected the power cable for about 5 mins then plugged it all back in and started it up fine no problems except 1! 30-40 Min's later it cut out again... any idea whats happened?
When it first died in Feb 08 i thought it was the PSU had gone... but now with it sort of working im not too sure.
All comments, suggestions and links to tech support sites are more than welcome.
Classic PSU scenario
I mean, a PSU really never "dies" unless it fried. It could be you strained it so bad in the past that some bits inside the PSU died out on you.
I own the 260gx? (the mini one right?) its pretty good, but it only has a 200W power supply, go figure. It will never cut out due to dust, it will only overheat, but not cut out.
So its the PSU, get a new one if you can (hard to find ones for that model) if not, I wouldn't reccomend carrying on like that as you could fry what ever is left of the computer (ram CPU etc)
Hope this helps.
