How do I connect two computers that are in different rooms to the internet?
I know there's the wireless route but I'm trying to see if wired works.
The one is upstairs is connected using the modem that came with the AT&T service. Now we have a new computer downstairs and I have no idea how to connect it to the internet. We have a ethernet port/cable thing if that helps.
Two ways to do this thing
1. put two eithernet cards in one of system directly conected to the modem or internet conection. Now connect second computer to the second card (NIC) of first computer.Right Click on the card directly connected to the internet goto its properties here you can got an extra tab named advance and got here a new option not available before named ICS (internet connection sharing) just enable it. make shure that you should not configure any ip address on second machine just got from dhcp option slect....as ics has its own mini dhcp. thats all and you can share internet.
2. method is this take one lan card, get cable from it (on the computer directly connected to the internet,in case the nternet is not throough lan card or eithernet although in both cases first method can work) and dispatch it on the hub or switch now connect second computer to the hub or switch also .....goto to second computers internet explorer properties slect connection tab click on the lan settings and here give the address of first computer.(connected to the internet) and give there the port 80.
in second case be sure that you have assign satic ip but of the same network of your first computer.
Anyhow first method is prefered by me as it is easiest method, if need more help give complete scenario thanks
