How do you know when you have enough RAM memory in your computer?
To put it another way, how do you assess the ideal amount of RAM to install in your computer in order to maximize performance and speed of your system for your normal functions, but also knowing that adding additional RAM would make no further improvement.
I am not a gamer, nor do I use any memory intensive programs nor combinations of programs normally.
I have installed a freeware program that among other things posts to my system tray an indicator of how much free RAM I have remaining. I usually have over two hundred MB's left even with a considerable amount being used by the swap file. My suspicion is that adding a (second) 512MB chip would not make any noticeable improvement(s). Am I right ?
its a waste of money to purchase more RAM if you don't have a need for it. also uninstall that freeware program you have, it is tasking your existing RAM, and i'm sure it being free, it came with some spyware/adware that is also take'n up your RAM.
purchasing RAM to increase speed isn't always the solution, the BUS speed, CPU, harddrive, all play a role in your preformance.
